The outbreak of COVID-19 all over the world and in our state and city has greatly disrupted multiple aspects of our social and professional lives. Our hearts go out to our members and broader community impacted by the pandemic. For many of us in advertising, marketing, and communication, a big shift has been a change to working from home.

While we are grateful that our jobs allow us to continue working, the change can come with some challenges. So, members of our board have compiled a list of helpful tips for while you work from home, as well as shared photos of our WFH set ups for some inspiration!

Allison Kelley, Creative Chair
“My advice would be to stay on a routine as much as possible! Continue waking up, working out, eating breakfast, etc. just as you would any other day. Except you’re not going anywhere. Just taking care of yourself in place.”

Lauren Simonis-Hunter, Past President
“My tip is to have your work from home space mirror your office space as best you can. If you have two screens at work but not at home, try using your TV as a second monitor.”

Jenna Hillmer, President
“Take breaks throughout the day. If you normally take a half-hour or an hour for lunch, stick to that when you’re working from home. It will help you focus better in the long run and not burn out while working from home.”

Grace Davenport, Vice President, Chair of Programs and Fundraising
“Keep a consistent routine. When I was getting up to go to work, I took my dog for a walk, worked out, got ready and went to work. Now I am keeping the same routine, but instead of driving to work, I go to my desk at home. Keeping a consistent routine will help things to feel as normal as they can in this crazy time we are living.”

Andrea Stegman, Membership Chair, Social Media Chair
“My WFH tip is to always change out of your pjs! Even if you just change into different comfy clothes, it seems to give me a mind shift.”

Kaine Korzekwa, Communications Lead
“I have a ton of houseplants and have found keeping some greenery next to me on my WFH desk has helped a lot. I love looking over at my blooming African violet on my breaks! Move any plants you have closer to your work set up if possible. And definitely get outside for a walk at some point during your day, just make sure you’re following proper social distancing measures.”

While our lives have been disrupted, our club is still operational — and we are still recruiting board members for next year! We have a variety of open positions with ranges of workload. If you want to learn more, contact Lauren Simonis-Hunter, Past President, at laurenesimonis@gmail.com.
